WhatsApp is testing two-step verification for desktop and web

WhatsApp appears to be a hardworking social media company, as the business is currently developing a number of new features. Earlier this month, WaBetaInfo revealed that the messaging service is testing the ability to assist individuals in transferring chat history from Android phones to iOS devices. According to a new source, the platform is now testing a significant security feature for both its desktop and online versions.

Two-step verification on WhatsApp

WhatsApp is apparently going to implement two-step verification only for the purpose of increasing security, given the large number of individuals who rely on this messaging programme for both professional and personal purposes. The service currently supports biometric authentication for the online and desktop versions of the service; however, the new one will provide customers with an extra layer of security and protection against fraud.

Users of desktop and online applications will be able to set up two-step verification in the near future. According to the snapshot provided by WaBetaInfo, there are two options available for enabling this functionality. WhatsApp will allow you to set a PIN or add an email address to your contact list.

Once your WhatsApp account has been created and verified by entering the 6-digit verification code, you will be prompted to create a personal PIN to log into your account. It was reported that WhatsApp is working on incorporating two-step verification into its web and desktop clients in a future update. “WhatsApp wants to make it easier to manage two-step verification everywhere, so they are working on incorporating the feature into their web/desktop client in a future update,” the report stated.

Users of mobile devices already have access to the same functionality. As of right now, it is unclear when this function will be made accessible for public beta testers, according to the quoted source, who claims that the feature is still in the early stages of development. WhatsApp, on the other hand, is anticipated to introduce this functionality this year.

How can you keep your WhatsApp account safe?

Now that fingerprint authentication and two-step verification are available on mobile devices, consumers may make use of them. If someone gets their hands on your smartphone, they will be unable to access your WhatsApp conversations since the software will prompt them to enter a security PIN or scan their fingerprint before accessing your messages. It would result in getting your account secured from hackers or other vulnerable sources.

When you open the app, you will see a fingerprint lock function available in the Privacy area. Simply navigate to Account under Settings to enable two-step verification. Once you have enabled biometric authentication on your smartphone, you will be asked to unlock the app before you can link it to your account for the first time.
