Gear VR Not Working? Here’s How to Fix It
If your Gear VR isn’t working right now, it might be a simple fix. It might be a simple step you’ve missed, or a feature you’re missing, but it might not be the most obvious. The simplest fix is usually the best one, so let’s look at some of the most common Gear VR issues and how to fix them. Remember to test each solution after completing it.
To troubleshoot your Gear VR, first make sure it’s connected to the computer and plugged in. If it’s not, check the USB port. Make sure you’re using a Micro USB adapter, or a USB C adapter. Press the phone firmly into the adapter. If you still can’t connect to the headset, unplug and reconnect the phone. Alternatively, you can try uninstalling and reinstalling the app.
One of the most common reasons for gear VR not working is that the phone is not properly plugged in. You should check that your phone doesn’t wiggle when folded over and that the headset is attached snugly. You should see the Oculus launch when the software launches. You’ve probably tried the same things and it’s still not working. Make sure you check all these steps before you start troubleshooting the issue.
In September, John Carmack, the CEO of Oculus, announced that the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 would not support the Gear VR, and the Galaxy S20 soon followed suit. This effectively kills Samsung’s support for the device. Despite its popularity, Daydream has virtually died out too. Not only are the latest Samsung devices not compatible with Daydream, but the Daydream hardware has stopped selling. The Oculus SDK and Unity engine deprecated the Gear VR’s compatibility.
If your Gear VR headset isn’t working, try switching to a different device. It might be worth trying a different power outlet or another cable. Make sure your phone is turned on and Bluetooth is turned on. Also, the Oculus app should detect the Gear VR controller and launch it if it isn’t on. Once you’ve finished this, you can try using your phone without the headset, or by using a Samsung phone device. Alternatively, you could download the Oculus Home app for your mobile phone.
Samsung has discontinued the Gear VR headset and Galaxy XR headset. The Samsung Gear VR is the first modern consumer VR headset, and its compatibility with newer versions of the Galaxy phone won’t change too much from its launch in 2014. The software won’t support uploading 360-degree videos and will not receive any updates or patches after September 2020. Samsung will no longer update the Gear VR to support newer Samsung phones, so you’ll be stuck with the same problem. You can try out the Cardboard Camera app.
You can also try to download the latest version of Oculus VR for your Samsung Galaxy phone. If you’re not happy with the version of the software installed on your phone, you can use the beta version of the app. However, you’ll have to update your smartphone if it doesn’t support Oculus Video or 360 Photos. There are other film streaming services that work with the Gear VR. Unlike Facebook, you can download games for the Gear VR from other platforms.
Another option is to reinstall the app on your Samsung Galaxy S10 phone. You’ll have to install Oculus again, but this time it’s for a better version of Android. You can also use Oculus’ library and download Oculus apps directly from it. However, the chances are extremely small that you’ll reach this stage. If this doesn’t work, you should consider trying another virtual reality headset.
First, check if your Samsung Galaxy Note 4 phone is compatible with the Gear VR. You’ll need to update your device, which is available from AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint. If you’re using a cellular network, you’ll also need to make sure the device is unlocked. Once you’ve updated your device, you’ll need to install software updates for the Gear VR to work. You may have to wait until your carrier releases the software updates for your device.
