2022 Quarter Error: Maya Angelou
A coin with the name “Maya Angelou” on it is likely an error. The writer and activist was responsible for starting the series of U.S. women’s quarters. Angelou supported the Civil Rights movement and worked with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. She is an excellent choice for a quarter, as she was a major advocate for racial equality. However, the coin’s design is not perfect.
To rectify the problem, the U.S. Mint released another coin with the incorrect portrait of Maya Angelou on the obverse. A 2022 quarter honoring Maya Angelou was released on Monday. The coins will be manufactured in Philadelphia and Denver. Shipping of the coins to locations nationwide began on Monday. The 2022 quarter honors the poet, author, singer, social activist, and activist.
