Verizon’s FiOS is Coming Expected in a Few Weeks

With Verizon’s Fios service, you’ll have more than just fast Internet. You’ll get the ability to stream videos, download photos, and more. And the best part is, it’s available in most parts of the country. But it may take a while to reach your area. Here’s a closer look. If you’re in the mid-Atlantic region, get ready to upgrade your service. Verizon is launching 5G home internet service in select cities and is extending 4G LTE service to rural areas.

The company’s fiber-optic service, called FiOS, is finally coming to some areas of the United States. While the company has yet to roll out this service to all areas, it’s hoping to please investors and analysts and get more people on board with the fiber-optic revolution. It will cost $18 billion over the next six years and add $5 billion worth of copper. But the big question remains: will it be worth it?

Verizon’s 5G home internet service is expected to expand to nearly 20 million customers by the end of 2019. While this is a big leap for the company, it also catches up with rival T-Mobile. In the past year, the company has begun rolling out its own 5G home internet service. Verizon’s 5G service offers speeds of up to 1 gigabit per second. Fios Gigabit connection costs $99 a month and the Fios Router G3100 comes with faster Wi-Fi 6.

In order to meet its target of 6 million or 7 million FiOS customers by year-end 2010, the company plans to pass 18 million premises with its fiber network. This is the equivalent of 50 percent of the 33 million households in Verizon’s 28-state wireline service area. Currently, the company is on track to reach six million premises by year-end 2006, and three million premises a year through 2010.

By the end of the third quarter, Verizon expects to have more than 500,000 FiOS Internet customers. At the end of the second quarter of 2006, Verizon had 375,000 FiOS Internet customers. The company says customer loyalty is far above expectations and that it’s seeing strong demand for FiOS TV, which was launched just one year ago. It’s possible that the company can reach its goal sooner than anticipated.
