A lot of technological advancements are made in a number of fields to make life easier, however, some of these advancements do not yield the same results as it was expected from them despite being made with the sole intention of helping people get certain things done in a faster and more efficient manner. Google Plex is one such example of a technology that was introduced last year itself and it met a terrible fate because of the following reasons. It must be noted that the following points are going to clearly explain why people are now compelled to say, “RIP GooglePlex!“.
WHAT IS GOOGLEPLEX?
Google Plex is a mobile-first banking solution that was released in November 2020 by Google in collaboration with Citibank and some other major banks across the world.
HOW IT COULD HAVE MADE BANKING EASIER?
It could have made banking easier by reducing the time people have to spend on their daily banking tasks. But before it could do that, it suffered a terrible fate. Let’s understand the reasons behind this.
REASON FOR FAILURE #1: LOW NUMBER OF CONSUMERS!
It has been reported that a very low number of people subscribed to this service from Google which led to its ultimate demise on 4 October 2021. The lack of consumer interest also played a huge role in this factor and it was also reported that less than five seconds are spent on this platform by those who use it. It was because of such a low number of customers that Google had to shut down this division of theirs.
REASON FOR FAILURE #2: LACK OF PROPER MARKETING!
Anything that is not visible to the public is destined to vanish in a very short period of time, something similar happened with Plex. Google did not market this product well and as a result, a majority of people had no idea what Plex is all about. Only if Google had chosen to spend a few bucks on the marketing of this product, they would not have to shut down their Plex division. Marketing is one of the core elements of any business and if it is not done right, then the results are going to be the same as Plex.
REASON FOR FAILURE #3: POOR IMPLEMENTATION OF THE PROGRAM!
The implementation of the program was not done in a proper manner. Apart from the reasons mentioned above, the poor implementation of Plex led to its eventual failure before it could even complete one year of its launch.
It is rather sad that such an efficient system underperformed and failed to get the attention it deserves. We all know that Google will continue to serve us with all the technologies that it has, and that is why it is okay to not mourn the failure of this effort. Apart from the reasons mentioned above, if you think there was anything else that worked towards the unfortunate end of GooglePlex, then do let us know.
